Demary joins Marathon after serving as Product Manager for the 9000 Series Instruments at Super Systems Inc. in Cincinnati where he was key in the development, deployment and service of the 9000 series instruments used in their heat treating controls products.

Marathon Named 2007 Ohio Exporter of the Year by Governor Strickland

West Chester, OH (20 July 2007) – Ohio Governor Ted Strickland awarded the highest honor in exporting for 2007 to Marathon Monitors Inc. During a ceremony at the Statehouse Atrium, the Governor awarded 31 Excellence in Exporting Awards, naming Marathon the “Exporter of the Year 2007.”

"Ohio is poised to become a leader in our fast-growing global economy, and we must continue to recognize that opportunities beyond our state borders are vital to Ohio's economic success," Strickland said, in his official release dated 18 July 2007. "These businesses represent the kind of drive, vision, and innovation required to be a leader in Ohio's exporting industry. I'm proud to honor them today."

Accepting the award were Marathon owners Eric and Yvonne Boltz. “Marathon is proud and excited to receive this honor from Governor Strickland. The employees and partners of Marathon share the responsibility deserve the recognition for their hard work. We knew that working with quality partners around the globe and not outsourcing our production and parts to cheaper places was the right way to continue,” said Eric Boltz, President of Marathon. “Our sales and service subsidiary in China and licensee in Mexico have worked hard to increase our market and maintain the quality that makes Marathon the best.” Marathon exports approximately 50% of its products while all manufacturing remains in West Chester, Ohio.

Marathon Celebrates 25 Years in Business

Cincinnati, OH (2 January 2007) - Marathon Monitors Inc. is pleased to announce that today marks Marathon's 25th year in business. The Cincinnati Chamber was kind enough to drop in and give us this snazzy certificate too.

Marathon Monitors Upgrades to New Manufacturing Facility

Cincinnati, OH (20 December 2006) - Marathon Monitors Inc. is pleased to announce its move to an upgraded, modern facility in West Chester, Ohio. The new building is ideal for Marathon’s ongoing lean manufacturing initiative and their re-entry into full service and turnkey systems for the Heat Treatment and Process Control industries.

“Over the last year Marathon, with the help of TechSolve, transitioned to lean manufacturing methods that were hampered by our less modern, batch manufacturing facility.” said Yvonne Boltz, Vice President for Marathon Sensors. “As a technology leader in heat treat and process control products, we needed a more modern space that would enable lean, flow-based manufacturing.”

The new building, located at 8904 Beckett Rd. in West Chester, Ohio (45069), has an open layout for lean manufacture of Marathon's instrumentation, sensors, turnkey systems and ozone generation products. Marathon Monitors has long been a symbol for quality and innovation in both heat treatment and process control markets and, following new ownership December 2005, strives for even further excellence in new products and service.

“Since becoming a family-owned and operated business one year ago, Marathon has implemented new ERP systems, lean manufacturing and a worldwide service and support network, all to better serve our customers.” said Marathon President Eric Boltz. “This building makes our transition to a fully modern, customer focused enterprise complete.”

Marathon Monitors, a family-owned, ISO 9001:2000 registered firm, designs, manufactures and markets atmosphere sensors, instrumentation and control systems for the heat treating, power generation, glass and ceramic, chemical and petrochemical, steel reheat, and incineration industries. Simply Add Ethernet to All You Marathon Instruments

Cincinnati, OH (07 September 2006) - Marathon Monitors Inc. announces the availability of Ethernet connectivity for all current and legacy instrumentation. With this new capability any existing installation can be made fully compatible with Ethernet networking and the most modern data acquisition and supervisory systems.

Marathon's new MMInet hub allows users to seamlessly interface multiple instruments to industry-standard IP addresses. These instruments can then be accessed over a virtual serial port on a control computer using a simple driver. Up to 15 MMI-protocol instruments or 247 Modbus instruments can be attached to a single MMInet hub.

"Plant managers and Maintenance managers need to be able to access their equipment from wherever they are and now they can access even legacy Marathon instrumentation for a very low cost," says Yvonne Spooner, Vice President of Marathon Monitors. "It is important to service and update legacy equipment as Marathon products last so long and remain reliable for longer than most people own their cars! This is just one more reason to come to us for your heat treatment needs."

MMInet is simple to install - simply assign IP addresses and wire your RS-485 connections to the hub. The hub is then connected to your LAN and addressed by your SCADA system using a virtual serial port driver that makes the networked instruments appear to be on a local serial port. This means even legacy software systems can now be made Ethernet capable. Contact Marathon for installation and promotional details.

Low-Cost Headless Probe for Atmosphere Heat Treating

Cincinnati, OH (25 August 2006) - Marathon Monitors Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of MMI Corp, announces the introduction of the new Headless Probe for atmosphere heat treating. The new probe is the latest addition to the arsenal available to heat treaters for controlling atmosphere.

The Headless Probe, which is manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio, is based upon Marathon’s acclaimed Carbonseer – the best and most reliable oxygen probe used in atmosphere heat treating. The difference between the two probes lies in the thrifted composition of the Headless

Probe. The design is more compact and has the flexibility for either 1.05" or 0.84" diameter sheaths and the sheath is made from high quality alloy.

"In order to meet the diverse needs of our customers, it is important to produce a variety of probes," says Erika Leeds, Customer Service and Sales Manager for Marathon Monitors. "We serve many heat treatment customers all over the world and the need for a flexible format, thrifted probe had to be met and we are doing it with the Headless probe."

The Headless probe is also available in bundle quantities for larger users and OEMs. Contact Marathon to discuss how the Headless Probe can work for your business.

Marathon Multinational Industries (MMI) Buys Marathon Companies

Cincinnati, OH (05 January 2006) - Marathon Multinational Industries Corporation (MMI-Corp) announces the acquisition of the Marathon group of companies including Marathon Monitors Inc. (MSI) and Marathon Monitors and Control Systems Corporation (Beijing) Ltd. (MMC). MMI-Corp's majority shareholder is Dr. Eric Boltz, President of Marathon Monitors Inc. The change in ownership marks the forward momentum for Marathon with new products and the re-entry into SCADA and IR systems and its continued position as a leader for heat treatment and combustion trim products.

Boltz, who has managed MSI for six years and brought a new innovative edge to the company, is very positive for the future. "Being part of a big business can have certain advantages," states Boltz, "but when you are a successful, tight operation it is better to be flexible and less bureaucratic. Today's Marathon can respond much more quickly to opportunities and customer needs."

"Without the baggage of a larger corporate owner, there are almost no limits to what Marathon can accomplish now," stated Dean DiMarco of Industrial Systech in Brampton, Ontario, "I expect great things in 2006."

As the ownership shifts from a large conglomerate to private ownership, Marathon anticipates many new products and services that were previously unavailable. "The quality of the products will be upheld throughout any changes," says Yvonne Spooner, Vice President and co-owner of Marathon, "but the customer will experience better customer and technical service. The big excitement in 2006 is our reentry into systems with open platform, cost-effective SCADA software."

10Pro-OT from Marathon Provides Overtemp Peace of Mind

Cincinnati, OH (March 3, 2005) - Elevated furnace temperatures can create unsafe plant conditions, increasing the risk of fire and explosion. The 10Pro-OT controller available from Marathon Monitors minimizes this risk with reliable temperature monitoring and alarm, backed by Marathon's expert service and comprehensive warranty.

The 10Pro-OT single setup controller monitors furnace temperature and provides notice if the temperature exceeds the desired setting. An easy-to-read LED display provides clear visual indication of alarm status, and the unit can also be configured as part of an industrial control panel to sound an audible alarm. Only when the furnace temperature falls back into the set safe range will the alarm reset. This safety feature prevents manual overrides to ensure that the instrument is only reset when operating conditions return to a safe range.

Compatible with all furnace types, the 10Pro-OT is configured for thermocouple universal input connections. The unit is designed for standard quarter DIN panel mounting and is UL and FM approved. The 10Pro-OT replaces Marathon's discontinued 10Pro L microprocessor controller.

Thermal Shock AbsorberTM from Marathon Speeds Maintenance and Protects Probes

(Cincinnati, OH), January 17, 2005) - Removing a hot probe from a boiler or furnace often forces a choice between equally unattractive options: remove it quickly and risk damaging the probe due to thermal shock, or undertake time-consuming incremental removal to prevent thermal shock. Marathon Sensors has solved this dilemma with the introduction of the Thermal Shock Absorberâ„¢ (patent pending), an insulated probe sleeve that protects hot probes from thermal shock after quick removal, saving time and money.

Sudden changes in temperature can damage probe substrates beyond repair. To prevent thermal shock damage, probes are traditionally extracted as slowly as one inch every five minutes, a tediously slow process. Marathon's Thermal Shock Absorber is the first device to minimize this time-consuming process. Maintenance and troubleshooting delays are reduced, and the risks to personnel and the probe are minimized with this easy-to-use, cost-effective device.

The lightweight sleeve requires no special safety gear, and can be operated by a single person. At only a fraction of the cost of a new probe, The Thermal Shock Absorber is a money saving investment, reducing both costly production downtime and expensive probe replacement.

Special promotional pricing is available through April 15, 2005 and can be downloaded here. For more information, contact Marathon at 513-772-1000.

Marathon Introduces FireView - Hybrid Combustion Analyzer

(Cincinnati, OH), June, 2004...Marathon's FireViewâ„¢ hybrid combustion analyzer provides accurate characterization of combustion allowing reduction of both fuel use and harmful emissions. FireView combines in-situ and extractive sensors to generate complete oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrous oxides (NOx) profiles essential for combustion optimization.

Unlike conventional analyzers, FireView uses a high-temperature sensor to measure O2 and temperature directly in the combustion chamber. This sensor serves as a sample port for extractive CO and NOx analysis. By measuring in the firebox, FireView allows fossil fuel users to react quickly to changes in their process instead of merely logging problems.

FireView interfaces with process control systems using industry-standard 4-20 mA signals that are then used for combustion trim control, trend analysis, and troubleshooting.

Marathon provides free analyses (IRR, ROI, payback) of the impact FireView can have on your process. For more information, contact Marathon at 800-547-1055 or +01 513 772 1000.

Marathon Releases the Tempest 100 Combustion Analyzer

(Cincinnati, OH), March, 2004...Combustion control specialist, Marathon Monitors, introduces the Tempest 100 portable gas analyzer. This versatile instrument can be used to monitor both combustion efficiency and stack emissions for regulatory compliance in the glass, petrochemical, steel, incineration and power generation industries.

The Tempest is an economical way to obtain multiple gas measurements, as well as pressure, temperature and flow readings from any point in the combustion process using a variety of sampling devices. The lightweight analyzer is cordless, making it easy to carry from place to place for random sampling and troubleshooting throughout the plant, from the radiant heat zone of the boiler or furnace to the stack. A built-in printer provides immediate documented readings while the unit's memory collects data to be downloaded to PC for later analysis.

The flexibility and portability of the Tempest is ideal for regulatory and process consultants who travel to multiple locations. It can also serve as an inexpensive back-up to existing on-site industrial plant monitoring systems. In this setting, the Tempest can be used as an interim system in the event that permanent monitors are under repair or as a tool to locate problems in the process where permanent monitoring isn't an option.
